Any person living within the boundary of this
country will attest to the fact that Ghana enjoys an enviable peaceful
atmosphere as compared to other African countries. Most often African elections
are usually marred with violence because of the "Prize" at stake.
Ghana is not an exception but we have been able to overcome some of the
difficulties that come with these issues. I must say I am proud to have
exercised my franchise in this year’s election and will be part of the process
for a long time to come.
The last few days have seen a series of attacks against people of opposing political views. This shows section of the population is still grieving over the electoral results, and it has always been part of the process.
Even though there were pockets of violence in some parts of the country in the aftermath of the electoral commission declaration of the results. I do not see it as a direct threat to the peace and stability of the country. It only shows some segments of the people are unhappy with the results as it's only common with most African elections.
I believe calm will be restored after 7th January 2013 when the president-elect is sworn into office. Ghana still remains the beacon of hope in "Africa in search of democracy".
